What It Means to Cowboy Up
Yeoldfurt sent this picture to me in email, I'm not sure where he got it. I had to crop the caption off the bottom of the picture because it was too small to read, but it said, 'Keep smiling big boy ...I got 8 seconds to kill and I'm all jacked up on Mountain Dew!'
That kind of encapsulates the meaning of the phrase 'cowboy up' that you hear these days. No matter what trials you're facing, no matter what seemingly insurmountable obstacles are in your path, you stand up, square your shoulders and forge ahead. Anything less and you're just guaranteeing your own demise.
There's a lot of doom and gloom in the news and in the blogs lately. Lord knows there's plenty of things to be worried about, but there are plenty of things to be grateful for as well. I think it's wise to keep an eye on the horizon and know what you're next challenge is going to be. I think it's important to prepare yourself and your family to ride out the hard times with as little discomfort as possible. But lets not forget that every day is a gift. When the going gets tough, the tough cowboy up!

Well said.
I love the picture.
Sign me up! I think back to Depression Days, what it must have been like when my Mom was a little girl on the farm and her parents had to figure it out. We've got a roof over our heads, food in the pantry and the sun comes up every.single.day. Great post girl!
Thanks, MDR...
I'm preachin' to the choir with most of my readers. You're definitely the cowboy up and 'get 'r done' kinda guy!
: )
Thanks, Joycee...
My parents grew up during the Depression too. As kids that's all the knew. But my grandparents had great stories. A willingness to work hard for just a little and the tenacity to pick themselves back up when life knocked them down. They didn't blame anyone, they just dealt with it as it came. I hope I have their mettle.
Thanks HB
Sometimes I need to be reminded that there are things to be grateful for. Lately, I've been kinda dwelling on the doom and gloom. Which really does not do any good for me or anybody else.
So...whenever I find myself slipping into that pattern, I will try to picture you throwing me "The Look" and saying, "Come on Fel, get over it and Cowgirl Up"
Sorry, didn't feel right calling myself a cowboy. ;)
Love and Hugs to you and YOF
~Fel~
Everybody has those 'woe is me' moments, Fel, and you're right - they are totally no help for the situation. Cowboy up for the guys, cowgirl up for the girls ...that's exactly right. If you ever need me to give you the look, you just holler ...I'm pretty sure I can do it over the phone. Ha!
That picture is too cute. You have no idea how much I needed that laugh.
Glad it gave you a chuckle, Craftivist ...we all need a good belly laugh once in a while!!
: )
Love this post. :)

Thanks, Sneaux. Love the vintage Christmas pictures on your blog too! I think you and I are of the same 'vintage' ...ha!
Ain't for City Girls ...welcome, welcome back! You became a follower here quite some time back. I know, all the blogs run together after a while. Ha!
Glad you liked the post. I agree ...bring it ON, world!
Too often we concentrate of the bad things that grab headlines these days. You are right to point out how much we have to be thankful for.
For Christians every day is Thanksgiving day. Thank God for the blessings of the day, for protection through the night, for health, happiness, food, shelter, family, for this wonderful world He created, the fact that He loves each of us enough to come to earth as a newborn baby, lie a perfect life and then give that life freely in order to save us. It truly is amazing.
I love the picture.
I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and happy/healthy New Year.

That is one BIG bull!!! And yes, I agree, we can do it! Have a wonderful Christmas! ;D
Thanks, Debbie ...same to you and yours this holiday!
I agree, Julie ...love the picture, love the caption but that would sure make me nervous if that was my little one standing by that big ol' Brahma bull!
Every Brahma I've known personally (only two or three) have been at one end of the spectrum or the other ...total pussycats or total wall-eyed bearcats! Hopefully the one in the picture was the pussycat type!
rofl rofl that pic is great!!
Makes me laugh too, Texan. Every time I see it. LOL
If'n it was black text, he got it from my blog. I was gonna make the text bigger but I didn't want to take to much from the pic. Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to you too, CoolChange!
It was, in fact, black text... but it was sent to him in email and he didn't remember who it came from. When he sent it to me, it was just the picture and he said he thought it was cute. It made me think of the 'cowboy up' phrase which is what I posted about. I sure would have given you credit if I knew it came from your blog.
Tell you what, I'll do a repost and give you link back for credit. The good pictures make the rounds, don't they?
