When it's your best friend or your soul mate, you understand them and accept them...even accommodate them (make brownies for the neighbor so the he keeps bringing tomatoes!) without trying to CHANGE them. Relationships are where it proves the old axiom, it is better to give than to receive ...because when your heart remains focused on giving to your spouse, you receive ten fold.

: )HossBosshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13444735851486747330noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5662968327054666593.post-60959838034945454502010-07-27T18:39:45.563-05:002010-07-27T18:39:45.563-05:00Yes I tried those hanging basket-thingies, they us...Yes I tried those hanging basket-thingies, they use potting soil. I also tried big flower pots, but they just won't do any good.

As to the Grouch, we've been married almost 38 years so I can say with certainty, he is NOT going to try and grow anything. He's not an outdoor person except for fishing. He wants homegrown tomatoes, but not enough to try growing them himself, ha.

He is a wonderful husband and we are very happy, always have been, he's just not a gardener or yard person.

We have a neighbor who has been bringing us a few from his garden and they are so good. I make sure to keep him supplied with homemade brownies.

Debbie
Right Truth
http://www.righttruth.typepad.comRight Truthhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18274108313586611205noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5662968327054666593.post-55449607927989098732010-07-26T21:35:04.376-05:002010-07-26T21:35:04.376-05:00Thanks for stopping by, Debbie! Hanging basket of sorts for growing tomatoes ...might even be hydroponic ...guess I should have researched a little before I mentioned them. But even conventional planters might be your answer for the lack of deep topsoil. I bet if you tell the Grouch there's some fresh 'maters in it for him, he would start trying to figure out a way to make it work!

: )HossBosshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13444735851486747330noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5662968327054666593.post-49838899366289165602010-07-26T11:27:15.209-05:002010-07-26T11:27:15.209-05:00We live on a hill by the river, there are huge tre...We live on a hill by the river, there are huge trees, the ground is clay, rocks. I can barley get ground covers and shade plants to grow. I tried and tried for years to grow some tomatoes, but they don't get enough sun. It's not that I can't grow things, I was raised on a farm and can grow most any yard plants or garden plants, but not here.

The Grouch loves fresh homegrown tomatoes.

Enjoy all the fruits of your labors, they will certainly come in handy in the winter. I love Breat and Butter Pickles. My mother used to make great ones.

Debbie
Right Truth
http://www.righttruth.typepad.comRight Truthhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18274108313586611205noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5662968327054666593.post-27136955008092782362010-07-24T20:49:58.379-05:002010-07-24T20:49:58.379-05:00Considering it was severely neglected while I was ...Considering it was severely neglected while I was on overtime, the garden is doing well.
